ProSpeaking practice
Requesting a Different Interpreter
You arrive at the Harrowfen Municipal Benefits Office in southwestern Ontario for an appointment about financial support. The assigned interpreter, Petra, belongs to your weekend walking group. You are uncomfortable discussing your income and family circumstances in front of someone you see socially. Julian, the benefits officer, says a different interpreter could join by phone in about an hour. Waiting would mean missing your walking group’s afternoon outing. Farah, the appointment clerk, has an opening next week with another interpreter attending in person, but taking it would delay your benefits discussion. You want a different interpreter without suggesting that Petra has done anything wrong.
