Keeping Icy Front Steps Safe

Your neighbour Iona lives in Brackenreach, a coastal community in British Columbia. During freezing rain, her front steps keep icing over, even after she clears them in the morning. Yesterday, a delivery worker nearly slipped while bringing a parcel to her door. Iona has a covered carport beside the house that can be reached without using stairs, but visitors and delivery workers usually head straight for the front steps. She asks you how to make arrivals safer.
