A Later Start to the School Day

Your sister, Rina Calder, lives in Dorrenlea, a suburban community in Alberta. Her daughter's secondary school is considering moving its start time from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Classes would finish at 3:45 p.m. instead of 3:00 p.m., with the same amount of teaching time. Rina thinks calmer mornings could help students concentrate, but she worries about fitting after-school activities and family responsibilities into a shorter afternoon. She asks for your opinion.
