Outside Lunch at the Café
You own Café Ormeclair in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. Lucien, a regular customer who buys coffee every weekday, has recently started bringing lunch from another restaurant and eating alone at your largest table. Your posted policy says that customers may only eat food purchased at the café, but you have not yet discussed this with him. Today, the lunch rush has begun, and a group carrying café meals is waiting for a table. A small table is available near the window. As the owner, you can make a one-time exception, but you need to explain the policy and keep Lucien’s goodwill.

What this set practises
- Does the response connect the immediate seating problem, the food policy, and the chosen arrangement in a logical order?
- Does the speaker use natural, precise language to explain a boundary without blaming or embarrassing Lucien?
- Is the response easy to follow, with a steady pace, clear phrasing, and pauses around the main request?
- Does the speaker address Lucien directly, carry out one chosen course, and preserve goodwill while explaining the policy?
