Community Approval for a Bank Closure
Your aunt, Tessa Morin, lives in Wrenrock, a small town in northern Ontario. While visiting her, you discuss Laurent Vale Bank’s plan to close the town’s last bank branch. Tessa uses the branch for help with her banking, and the nearest alternative would be a forty-minute drive away. The bank says fewer customers now visit in person and keeping the branch open is expensive. Tessa asks whether banks should need the community’s approval before closing a town’s last branch.
