ProSpeaking practice
Personal Comments at the Checkout
You regularly shop at Saltcombe Grocery in Saltcombe, a coastal town in Nova Scotia. On your last three visits, Gavin, a cashier, has commented on your food choices. Today, while scanning your groceries, he jokes that your frozen meals mean you must never cook and asks whether you eat all the snacks yourself. Another customer hears him. You enjoy shopping here, but these repeated remarks make you uncomfortable. Gavin finishes serving the other customer, leaving his checkout quiet. Farah, the store manager, is also available at the nearby customer service desk.
